About Me

Marcel du Plessis

My abstract and emotional artwork is a reflection of the interconnectedness of the natural world and the human experience. Through mediums such as charcoal, pens, ink, spray, graphite, pastels and oil pastels, acrylic paint, and oil paint, I create dynamic compositions that explore the relationship between form, texture, and space.

Inspired by the work of artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, and Willem de Kooning, I seek to create art that is both visually evocative and emotionally profound. I find that the use of texture, layering, and spatial relationships can create a sense of depth and complexity that resonates with the viewer.

In my work, texture is a key element. I am drawn to the natural patterns and textures found in the physical world, as well as the emotional textures that we experience as humans. Through the use of layering and texturizing techniques, such as creating relief effects, I aim to create a sense of depth and richness in my compositions that is both tactile and visual.

Spatial relationships are also an important part of my work. I am interested in exploring the way that objects and forms interact with one another, creating a sense of tension or harmony. In my artwork, bold colors and shapes are juxtaposed, often overlapping and intersecting in unexpected ways. This creates a sense of dynamism, suggesting the ever-changing nature of our emotional experiences.

Ultimately, my goal as an abstract and emotional artist is to create art that is both beautiful and poignant, connecting the viewer to the complexity and beauty of the human experience.
